Sponsored by the National Fund for Tobacco Control, Nha Trang City Steering Board for Tobacco Control has just held the 2015 Anti-tobacco Propaganda Contest with the participation of 21 teams with nearly 100 contestants in Nha Trang City.

The contest began with the performance by Vinh Thai team. Their presentation was made with a folk chant, Vinh Phuong team with a play featuring a television interview and Ngoc Hiep team with a story about a smoker’s family.
Most of the presentations were folk chants together with anti-smoking posters and signs. Tran Bao Dinh, Phuoc Hoa Ward, says, “Nobody in my family smokes, so I did not pay attention to the issue. When joining the contest, I become more aware of the danger of smoking; the tobacco control law and other related regulations, etc. Now I know how harmful smoking is to the health of smokers and passive smokers alike.”
Especially, the propaganda event won the most rapturous applause. All the teams’ costumes and transcripts were well-prepared. The play by Vinh Phuong team featured the change in thinking of a smoker when his wife explained diseases caused by smoking and its true financial cost a year.
The play by Vinh Trung Ward featured a trial overseen by the God of Death against a tobacco smuggler. His crime against the health of the heath of his own family and the society was claimed. Phuoc Tien team personalized the story of air struggling for the fresh environment when faced with pollution due to smoking.
Tran Ngoc Le, Deputy Chief of Nha Trang City Health Division, the jury head, says, “This is the first time the contest has been held in Nha Trang City. All of the teams have made thorough preparation with great creativeness in delivering the messages of harmful effects of tobacco on the health and budget of every smoker’ family, including passive smokers."
In addition to education to raise public awareness of harmful effects of tobacco, smoking, and secondhand smoking on human health and the environment, the contest is an opportunity to share, exchange experience in tobacco control and prevention propagation.
According to Tran Quoc Binh, the Community Development Services (CDS), besides support for the contest, we have also kept tobacco control activities under surveillance. Nha Trang City has held many activities to effectively raise public awareness of harmful effects of tobacco through propaganda competitions; activities of the Sea Festival, etc.
