The contest is designed to drive learners’ interest and skills in science and engineering. After 3 years of organization, the Scientific & Technical Contest for high school students has drawn the participation of many students and the quality of their projects has much improved.
Specifically, in the 2013-2014 event, 9 teams with 57 students entered the contest. 18/30 projects in 4 sectors won provincial prizes and 3/4 projects were awarded the national prizes. In the 2014-2015 school year, the contest drew the participation of 17 teams with 91 students presenting projects in 7 sectors. 36/62 projects won provincial prizes and 4/6 projects were awarded national prizes.
Phan Van Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education & Training says the contest is an opportunity for students to show their skills in science and engineering, contributing to teaching method innovation and educational quality increase.
Reportedly, the contest is annually held by the Ministry of Education & Training and its winners will be conferred some privileges as in the National Excellent Student Contest. To attract more contestants, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has requested divisions of education & training, high schools, vocational schools and centers to propagate the purposes, meaning and the content of the contest among school management, teaching staff, students’ parents and the community.
According to Phan Van Dung, the information about the contest can be publicized at flag-salute ceremonies, class meetings or on school announcement boards. Besides, preferential policies are needed to benefit winners of school-level or district-level contests. In addition, it is necessary to link the contest with other competitions such as the contests on scientific and technical initiatives; oratory contests in English, computing contest for young talents, technical creation contest for children and teenagers, etc.
The contest is based on the results of research projects in 20 fields, including animal science; social and behavioral science; biochemistry; biomedical and health science; molecular cell biology; chemistry; computational biology, Biology and Computer Science; earth and planet science; embedded system, chemical energy, physical energy, environmental engineering, mathematics, microbiology, physics and astronomy; botany science; robots and intelligent machines and system software.
The deadline for submitting entries for this school year's provincial contest is December 11, 2015.
