Cam Ranh City Association for the Elderly has effectively developed several campaigns for the senior, contributing to the local security and economic development.
The association has encouraged its members to actively participate in the campaign “Old age, good example” to contribute to the national poverty alleviation. 2,200 members are directly involved in business and production together with their children. 80 farms owned by old people have achieved profitability and 316 old people have been honored for their production efficiency.
Huynh Anh, Chairman of Cam Thuan Ward Association for the Elderly says, “To promote valuable contribution of senior citizens, we have boosted the propaganda to mobilize the elderly to continue donating their wisdom and experience to family and social work; as well as encourage their children to work hard to improve their living standards.
The farm model owned by Huynh Thi Nuoi born in 1932 is effective with an income of VND100 million/ year, creating jobs for 4 people who can earn VND3 million/ person/month. 38/131 members in Cam Lap have been recognized for their production efficiency.
The economic models of hill gardening, aquaculture, etc have created jobs for hundreds of locals. Outstanding members in terms of production development include Tran Tu, Truong Bao, Pham Thi Sang and so on.
Aquaculture farms owned by old people in Thuan Hiep and Thuan Hai in Cam Thuan Ward have thrived with an annual income of over VND100 million, creating work for many local laborers.
At present, Cam Ranh City Association for The Elderly has 8,450 members at 100 association branches. Much concern and support have been given to assure senior citizens’ healthy life.
Ta Huu Truong, the Permanent Representative Board of the Elderly says, the association in cooperation with Cam Ranh General Hospital and Khanh Hoa General Hospital has provided eye examination for 20 old patients; free medical check-ups and medication for 1,025.
Besides, monthly allowances of VND270,000 each are granted to those above 80 years old without retirement pensions. Up to now, 2,483 old people aged 80 and over, disabled and lonely old people have benefited from the monthly allowance. The preferential policies have partly helped to improve the living standard of old people in Cam Ranh.
In the time to come, Cam Ranh Association for the Elderly will focus on elder care and promotion of models of economic development, cultural family building, study encouragement, etc to further promote the roles of senior citizens.
