Khanh Hoa urban system development program, period 2011 – 2015, has contributed to the urban growth and living standard improvement.
According to leaders of Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, since the program was approved, the total investment for in urban development has reached over VND58,420 billion , 123,58% of the plan. Out of the sum, over VND234 billion has been poured into construction planning, 26,573 billion into technical infrastructures; and VND16,525 billion into social infrastructures and others.

The urban system development program has defined priority constructions to create stimulus to urban growth, promote investment and develop technical and social infrastructures synchronously. Over the past 5 years, the urban system development program has contributed to the improvement in living environmental quality in urban and surrounding areas.
Urban areas in Khanh Hoa Province have been upgraded. Many high-class recreational and leisure constructions, services and hotel complexes have added attraction to Nha Trang City. The soothing stretch of the beach park in the eastern of Tran Phu Street has created stunning views of green space together with service constructions in environmentally friendly architecture. “Over the past 5 years, I have seen much improvement in Nha Trang City with several modern centers, restaurants and hotels, meeting increasing demand of both visitors and local residents,” says 83 year-old Chu Tat Bo, a resident on Tran Phu Street, Loc Tho Ward, Nha Trang City.
In addition, community space constructions have been logically invested in other urban areas, including Cam Ranh City, Ninh Hoa Town, etc. According to Le Van De, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, technical infrastructure projects have been concertedly and effectively developed in accordance with approved planning. They include newly-built urban zones namely Vinh Diem Trung with a capital of VND1,500 billion; VCN Phuoc Hai, VND210 billion; Phuoc Long, VND463 billion; Ha Quang II, Seapark housing zone, etc.
Furthermore, some technical infrastructures projects that have been completed include Nha Trang City hygiene and environment improvement at a total cost of VND1,800 billion; Nha Trang Cai riverside and embankment, VND2,050 billion; water supply system construction in Ninh Hoa Town, nearly VND100 billion; Van Ninh Water Plant, VND22 billion, etc.
Most of urban areas in Khanh Hoa Province have general hospitals, each with 150 beds or more. All districts have vocational secondary schools and cities have trade centers. Strategic projects completed and underway include Cao Ba Quat, Lung Bridge, Phong Chau Street, flood control channels from Phu Vinh Bridge to Tac River; the runway No.2 of Cam Ranh International Airport, infrastructures in resettlement area in Ninh Hoa and so on.
According to the report of Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, the urbanization rate increased from 48.77 % in 2010 to 55 % in 2015. "After 4 years of operation, in spite of difficulties and challenges, Khanh Hoa has made good preparation and created favorable conditions for socio-economic growth," Le Van De says. Especially, the Department of Construction has been assigned to make and adjust the general planning of some urban areas in Nha Trang City and Cam Ranh City in order to promote investment, construction management and planning coverage. The focus constructions are expected to promote the local economic growth. Particularly, Nha Trang City will gradually improve its infrastructures and expand to the west and south, according to the project approved by the Government.
Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has focused on the requirement for sustainable development; and urban and social growth balance. The approved planning is required to meet the urban development demand as well as provide a considerable stimulus to investment appeal.
Le Duc Vinh, Provincial People’s Committee Deputy Chairman says, to promote Khanh Hoa to become a centrally-governed city, local authorities are required to continue fulfilling the planning work and management as well as investment appeal to Nha Trang Port, Ba Ngoi Port and stages of Van Phong International Transit Port. Khanh Hoa Department of Construction is requested to cooperate with local communities and agencies to review and re-evaluate the quality of existing urban areas to set specific targets for the new period; boost public participation in some sectors and access to central support funding for development.
