Vietnam Red Cross held a workshop in Nha Trang on November 19 on disaster risk reduction effectiveness increase in Vietnam with the participation of representatives of local disaster control centers and Red Cross associations.
Attendants were guided the implementation of the disaster prevention and control law and tasks, application of GIS in natural disaster risk reduction and provided the results of the first phase of the project 1002 “Enhance Community Awareness and Community Based Disaster Risk Management” (2009-2015) by the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development.
The community-based disaster risk management activities have taken place in 555 communes and wards in 36 cities and provinces with community disaster response teams in 159 communes and wards. Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has issued documents on drought and salt water intrusion prevention and control; 2014-2015 winter-spring rice crop support at a total funding of VND8.5 billion, etc under the project 1002.
