Pasteur Nha Trang Institute held a ceremony to mark the 120th anniversary of its foundation and receive the second-class Independence Medal and the emulation flag by Vietnam Health Trade Union on December 19. Present at the event were Nguyen Thanh Long, Deputy Minister of Health and Le Xuan Than, Standing Vice-Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council.

On behalf of the State President, Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Thanh Long grants the second-class Independence Medal to Pasteur Nha Trang Institute.

Established by Alexandre Yersin in 1985, Pasteur Nha Trang is in a chain of 34 Pasteur institutes in the world. After 120 years of construction and development, the institute has contributed to poliomyelitis eradication by the year 2000; neonatal tetanus elimination by 2005; plague, cholera and diphtheria control in Central Vietnam over the past 12 years. Besides, many scientific researches in control and prevention of such transmissible  diseases as  dengue, measles, flu, etc have been conducted.

Pasteur Nha Trang Institute was awarded the first-, second- and third-class Labor Medals, the second-class Independence Medal and emulation  flags. 3 physicians were recognized “People’s doctor” and 18 others received the title “Excellent doctor”. 3 former leaders of the institute were awarded  the third- and second-class Labor Medals on this occasion.
