Vietnam Association for the Elderly has just held a ceremony to review the 2015 charitable eye surgery program for elderly. The program has been developed nationwide for 4 years, benefiting over 3.6 million senior citizens.
Eye surgery has been performed on more than 541,000 people with the funding of over VND513 billion.
The program has been best implemented in such cities and provinces as Binh Thuan, Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, Hai Phong and Hanoi.
In Khanh Hoa alone, the representative board of Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly in cooperation with Saigon-Nha Trang Eye Hospital has taken charity trips to 137 communes, wards and cities to provide eye disease-related counseling for over 32,200 old people and conduct cataract and pterygium surgery on 1,900 people since 2012.
