Residents in Thanh Son Commune have access to safe water supply.

Ta Giang 1 Village with 158 families used to be in shortage of clean water. There are only 5 wells, so many locals had to travel far to take water from springs. The thing has changed as the clean water supply has just reached every house thanks to the newly-built clean water supply system.

“The clean water supply is available for home use. We don’t have to go far to get safe water from now on. We are so grateful to the local authorities’ concern and support,” says Cao Thi Ngoc, Ta Giang 1 Village.

Thanh Son Commune safe water project worth VND 5 billion includes a filter system, 7km pipes and over 30 water containers. The construction has just been put into trial operation. Vo Nhu Kien, a management staff says everyday he frequently checks the pipes and containers to make sure everything goes smoothly. He also encourages locals to protect pipes and containers and properly use safe water.

The trial operation is expected to begin with A Pa 1 Village and then expanded to other villages. Locals will be required to register for installation of water meters in order to facilitate water source management and raise public awareness of clean water saving. Besides, a water management board will be founded to urge all organizations and individuals to get engaged in the protection of the water system to assure long–term use and effectiveness, according to Ta Quoc Phong, Vice-Chairman of Thanh Son Commune People’s Committee.

The investment in the clean water system has met local needs, contributing to improving living standards in remote mountainous areas.
