In recent years, education and training for ethnic minority communities and mountainous areas in Khanh Hoa Province have gained satisfactory achievements thanks to preferential polices for ethnic minority students.
Excellent students in the 2014 – 2015 school year are awarded. |
Under the resolution of Khanh Hoa People’s Council, ethnic minority students have been offered monthly grants worth VND840,000 each at vocational high schools and VND1,050,000 each at universities. Besides, they have also benefited from other preferential policies according to the regulations of the Government. The total expenditure for students under the nomination policy was more than VND682 million in 2015. In addition, ethnic minority students in need have been provided additional financial support worth 60% of the minimum salary from January 2014.
A fourth-year student named Dam Thi Diep says, “The financial support is such a great encouragement to me. The monthly grant helps me to cover my tuition and daily expenses.” Dam Thi Diep is one of the three excellent ethnic minority students in Khanh Hoa Province.
Phan Van Dung, Deputy Director of the Department of Education & Training says the great effort of students together with beneficial policies have helped the education of Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh and other mountainous communities to develop and achieve satisfactory results. In 2015-2016 school year, 394 ethnic minority people are reported to study at 33 universities, colleges and vocational high schools nationwide. Ethnic minority students at universities account for 23.6% (up 2.6% compared with last school year), colleges 60.2% and vocational high schools 16.2%. The number of students major at medicine and economics has increased. 51.5% are at pedagogy schools and others study law, culture, art, tourism, etc.
In the year 2014 – 2015, the number of students graded good (118) and excellent (3) increased by 20 compared with last school year. 11 students were nominated to take courses at Ethnic Minority Pre University Schools and 7 qualified for admission to universities in the 2015-2016 school year.
“186 ethnic minority students have been recruited by the State agencies and organizations. They have applied what they have learnt at school into their work well. Their advance in study has partly reciprocated the favor provided by provincial leaders. I hope that they will try their best more to overcome difficulties and contribute to the homeland,” says Mau Van Phi, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Vinh District People’s Committee.
