The 2-day event drew 60 children in 6 teams from the Divisions of Education & Training of Khanh Son, Khanh Vinh, Cam Lam, Dien Khanh, Ninh Hoa Town and Cam Ranh City. The program included 4 interesting events namely greetings, Vietnamese language skills, propaganda, musical exchange and games. In the greeting round, the contestants introduced their homeland through singing, dancing, story-telling and acting. Khanh Son team in their colorful costumes highlighted cultural characteristics of ethnic groups namely Ede, Cham, Kho Me and Raglai.

Teams from Khanh Vinh and Ninh Hoa showed their pride for brighter pictures of their homelands. Children from Cam Ranh and Cam Lam painted their native land with blue sea, white sand and golden sunlight together with promising development potentials. In addition, ethnic groups’ daily activities and festivals with impressive traditions and customs in Khanh Hoa were featured. Perhaps, the most impressive were ethnic minority children’s confidence and communicative fluency.

Many children showed their excellence in Vietnamese language in the round namely “Our Vietnamese language” through reading, understanding and handwriting. Many not only enunciated clearly but also mastered their oral reading skills using expression and intonation. The most thrilling and attractive event was maybe the propaganda round. The teams had 90 minutes to think and arrange ideas to create meaningful and eye-catching paintings, which could deliver the messages of environmental protection, traffic safety, children’s rights and responsibilities.

“The children can not only draw beautifully but also speak persuasively. They can be seen as young propagandists who can show their good knowledge about social issues and hope for a healthy and better environment,” says Hoang Thi Ly, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Education & Training Department.

Members of the 10 teams were then randomly divided into groups to participate in folk games. All the new friends quickly cooperate to bring impressive performances. "We are very happy to meet and interact with many new friends. I become more confident in communication," says Cao Thi My Chau (Khanh Vinh team).

This is the first time the provincial-level exchange program on Vietnamese language for ethnic minority children has been held,  providing an opportunity for ethnic minority students to meet and have a broader environment for communication in Vietnamese. “All the teams had thorough preparation and attractive performances. Especially, we are so impressed by the confidence of children in speaking up their thoughts, knowledge and feelings. The event serves as a platform for ethnic minority children to expand their Vietnamese-speaking environments and thus improve their Vietnamese language skills as well as promote leaning and teaching quality at primary schools,” adds Hoang Thi Ly.
