The movement on land donation to traffic works in Ninh Son Commune, Ninh Hoa Town has received much support and advocacy from local residents. Many rough roads have been concreted under the motto “The State and people work together”, contributing to improving traffic safety and the image of the rural community.

A road construction nears completion in Village 2.

2 roads, nearly 650m in length, are being concreted at a total cost of nearly VND600 million. Local residents have donated more than 60m2 of land and VND33 million to the construction. The remaining expense has been funded by the town and commune. The 2 roads are expected to be completed and opened to traffic in early May. “The newly-concreted roads will facilitate travel, especially in rainy seasons,” says Le Thanh Hai, Head of Village 2, Ninh Son Commune.

Village 2 has about 380 households. The construction of the 2 roads has been approved and supported by all residents. Some have donated land and some have given financial support, ranging from VND200,000-500,000 to VND1-3 million/ household. 2 disadvantaged families named Pham Quang and Nguyen Tuyet Nga have also donated 30m2 of land each to the road construction.

Ninh Son is a mountainous commune in Ninh Hoa Town with 1,500 households (6,400 inhabitants). Their living standards in recent years have much improved thanks to the local authority’ support and local residents’ effort in the crop diversification and restructuring.

However, most of the local roads are rough and slippery trails, difficult for the travel and transport of agricultural products. Since 2013, the commune authority has successfully mobilized locals to join the movement on land donation to road works under the national target program on new rural construction.

Launched by the local authority, the movement has been implemented for 2 years and achieved satisfactory results. Over 10 roads have been invested, upgraded and widened. More than 2,000 m2 of land and VND200 million have been donated to the road construction by local residents in Village 2 and Village 4. “The land donation movement has expanded to other villages, apart from Village 2 and Village 4. More roads are expected to be concreted thanks to valuable support from local residents,” says Pham Minh Long, Chairman of Ninh Son Commune People’s Committee.
