Over 700 join meeting responding to World Malaria Day

A meeting and a parade marking World Malaria Day themed “End Malaria For Good” were organized in Khanh Vinh district on April 25 by Quy Nhon Institute of Malariology, Parasitology & Entomology in association with the World Health Organizatio and Khanh Hoa Department of Health. Present at the event was Nguyen Dac Tai, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee.

Speaking at the ceremony,  Nguyen Dac Tai instructed local communities to boost the malaria control, effective malaria epidemiological supervision at high-risk areas; enhance public participation and the military civilian cooperation in the health care. Besides, Khanh Hoa Department of Health was required to do research and evaluate residual insecticides, malaria drug resistance, effectiveness of antimalarial medication, etc.
 
In 2015, there were 214 million cases and 438 000 deaths from malaria in the world. In Vietnam alone, there were 19,000 cases and 3 deaths from malaria. 767 cases, a 36.8% year-on-year drop, with no death were reported in Khanh Hoa Province. In the first 3 months of 2016, Khanh Hoa had 147 cases, down 36%.
