This is the third year the “Semester in army” program has run. The event has received satisfactory feedback from former participants and their parents as it has provided a dynamic environment for teenagers to have fun as well as develop life skills, including self-help and problem-solving skills, according to Nguyen Van Nhuan, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union.

The course is open to teenagers aged between 11 and 17. The attendees will have full-time training at the Battalion 460, Regiment 974, Khanh Hoa Military Headquarters stationed in Dien Khanh District. The military program has 5 main contents namely military training, change of thought, life skill education; emotion and family; and teenagers’ roles in society.

The military training includes physical training, marching, orientation in the jungle; assertiveness, bravery and strong will training like real soldiers, etc. The training ranges from general knowledge to daily habits, similar to that for new military recruits.

During lessons on change of thoughts, students will join seminars where they can speak up their thoughts and feelings about their roles towards their families and societies. Life skills lessons in this semester include independence, behavior and social skills; problem solving, survival techniques and so on.

During the course, participants will have a chance to join talks about current issues to improve their awareness of school violence control, traffic safety and teenagers’ social responsibilities. Participants will be rewarded certificates after the semester in army.

The Standing Committee of Khanh Hoa Youth Union has given direction to relevant agencies to prepare the program in cooperation with Khanh Hoa Military Headquarters. Besides, Khanh Hoa Youth Union has announced the course via mass media and to all Youth Union affiliations, says Nguyen Van Nhuan.

Excellent trainers and coordinators have been selected to accompany participants all through the program. In addition, Khanh Hoa Youth Union has assigned its staff to directly join the program organization and management. The event is expected to be a great fun summer activity for teenagers.

Registration can be made at 6 Hoang Hoa Tham, Nha Trang City or Youth Solidarity Committee via telephone 058.3817514, 0905161377 or 0914440030.
