Various teaching tools and toys for kids are made from cheap and recycled materials every year by teachers with unique creativeness and skilful hands. 50 products in a variety of materials and designs were displayed at the provincial 2015 - 2016 Self-Made Teaching Aid Contest held by Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training.

Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet, a teacher at Hoa Phuong Nursery School, Dien Khanh District has created a IT based Olympic games for children aged 3-6. The PowerPoint game includes tests at increasing difficulty levels. The game displays pictures and congratulations screen with a fun little tune to increase kids’ concentration and motivate young learners.
 

“Many children love playing on computers or iPad tablets. Therefore, I build this educational game in order to develop kids’ language skills and cognition,” says Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet. The product has been used at Hoa Phuong Nursery School with satisfactory results. The product has been also highly appreciated by many other nursery schools.
 

Other excellent products include environmental protection tools by Sao Bien Nursery School, intellectual development toys by Huong Sen Nursery School; physical development toys and devices by some schools in Nha Trang City.
 

Used materials such as bottles, milk boxes, plastic straws, pieces of wood, shells, etc have become attractive toys and teaching aids. Most of the entries are in sets, easy, fun and inexpensive also are of similar quality like expensive ones produced by school equipment companies, according to Khanh Hoa Education & Training Department. Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has chosen 3 products to advance to the national round held by the Ministry of Education & Training scheduled to take place in Nha Trang City this June.
 

The self-made teaching aid contest and exhibition  is organized every year  to enhance teachers’ creativeness. This is also an opportunity for teachers to learn and share professional experience and expand new teaching aids to help motivating learners and thus making learning fun, inviting and enjoyable for young kids.
 

The campaign has remained for many successive years in various forms. Particularly, in the 2015 – 2016 school year, 100% of nursery schools, including private ones, have organized school-level contests with thousands of entries. 8 districts and towns have organized district-level contests with the participation of 186 schools and 523 products. Most of the entries have been effectively used at the participating schools.
 

Khanh Hoa Education & Training Department has suggested Divisions of Education & Training give guidance to nursery schools to remain the self-made teaching aid campaign. The department has also encouraged teachers’ creativeness in making teaching devices and toys. Prize-winning products will be expanded for use at schools, according to Hoang Thi Ly, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Education & Training Department.
