Khanh Hoa Trade Union has allocated over VND360 million to the construction of 9 houses for families in housing needs in the Workers’ Month under the guideline “Trade Union is present anywhere workers are in need”. Nguyen Thi Hoai Thu, a worker at Khanh Hoa Canned Food Company, Suoi Hiep Commune, Dien Khanh District says, “I have 2 children and old parents to take care of. Our monthly income of nearly VND4 million is not enough for the expenses for the whole family. I am so grateful to the Trade Union for VND40 million aid for house construction.  With the financial support, I am able to build a house on my parents’ 40m2 area and we won’t have to rent a house.”

Another worker named Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc Anh at Rapexco Dai Nam Company, Suoi Dau Branch, has been also offered a housing grant by the Trade Union. She and her husband are both workers, earning more than VND4 million a month. They are struggling to make ends meet. They have a land, more than 50m2, but don’t have enough money for house construction. “Our dream of a house has come true thanks to the VND40 million grant from the Trade Union,” says Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc Anh.

Besides, hundreds of gifts worth VND500,000 each have been offered to workers suffering from occupational diseases and accidents. Nearly VND50 million relief aid has been donated to 35 fishermen in poverty or having experienced accidents at sea. In addition, 300 flags have been given to 6 Fisheries Trade Unions.
The Workers’ Month has been widely celebrated with the theme “The Trade Union accompanies businesses in improving care for employees”, helping businesses to overcome difficulties, mobilizing workers to contribute their initiatives to increase work capacity and product quality.

“The Workers’ Month has been celebrated not only to protect workers’ legal rights, give practical support to enterprises to tackle difficulties in production and business as well as promote harmonious labor relationships. Notably, the labor and production emulation campaign has helped companies to raise their product capacity and quality. 10,000 products were produced in April. Since the beginning of May, more than 10,300 products have been made by workers and thus their income has also increased,” says Vo Son, Deputy Director of FLD Vietnam Company (Suoi Dau Industrial Zone).

Moreover, musical, sporting and cultural activities have been organized to provide sound playgrounds to improve health and strengthen solidarity among workers. “A Mini-Football Tournament has been held by the Trade Union for all the staff. I hope the organization will continue promoting its role and responsibility in assuring workers’ rights as well as organizing many entertaining activities for employees,” confirms Nguyen Van Hung, a worker of Hyundai Vinashin Shipyard.

Reportedly, in the Workers’ Month 2016, the Trade Union at all levels in cooperation with local authorities has enhanced the supervision over enterprises’ law conformity together with meetings and dialogues between employees and employers to solve conflicts in an effort to build a productive work environment and harmonious labor relationships.
