Peferential loans from the Bank for Social Policies help many residents to build water supply and sanitation facilities.

Nguyen Thi Lam, My Dong Village, Van Luong Commune is one of the families benefiting from a preferential loan from the credit program on clean water and environmental hygiene. “In 2012, my family was provided a VND8 million loan from the District Bank for Social Policies. We built a self-contained sanitation together with a water filter system,” says Nguyen Thi Lam. Another resident named Nguyen Van Son in Xuan Cam Village, Xuan Son Commune has also had access to clean water thanks to a VND12 million loan in 2014.

There are 1,091 households in Xuan Son Commune. 80% of the households have had access to hygienic sanitary facilities and water clean system thanks to the funding for clean water and environmental hygiene. Therefore, the rural hygiene and environment have much improved, contributing to satisfying environmental criteria in the new rural construction, according to Nguyen Xuan Tan, Chairman of Xuan Son Commune Farmers’ Association.

To effectively implement the program, Van Ninh District Bank for Social Policies has closely cooperated with local authorities together with local associations and organizations to bring to the program to every household in need of loans for clean water and sanitary systems. The disbursement can be made conveniently at transaction locations in communes, according to Nguyen Thanh Long, Director of Van Ninh District Bank for Social Policies.

7,300 households have had access to loans worth more than VND66 billion from the rural program on clean water and environmental hygiene. The highest loan is VND12 million for 60 months. Most of the households have used the loans to build such constructions as water tanks, water filter tanks, water-closets, etc.

In the time to come, the district Bank for Social Policies plans to continue effort to facilitate the program to reach every household in need, especially communities under the new rural construction.
