Ninh Son Commune, Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Hoa Province, is set to reach 75% health insurance coverage in 2016 while 60% has been achieved in the first 6 months, an encouraging figure for the local authority.

Local departments and agencies have joined effort to implement the health insurance coverage plan, period 2015 – 2020, by boosting education and communication campaigns to raise public awareness of humanitarian meanings and benefits of health coverage for everyone; inspiring community sense of responsibility for joining voluntary health care insurance; developing contracts on medical insurance payment collection agents with the town social insurance agency, etc.
Since the beginning of the year, 3,975 people in the commune have been covered by medical insurance, accounting for 65% of the local population, reports Bui Dinh Khuong, Vice-Chairman of Ninh Son Commune People’s Committee.
However, the universal health coverage task has faced some obstacles in investigation due to population size fluctuation (household separation, labor export, working far from home, etc). Besides, most of investigators are working on different tasks concurrently. Other difficulties include time taken due to change in medical insurance investigation forms, limited public awareness of medical insurance, etc.
Therefore, to further fulfill the target, Ninh Son Commune is required to raise the propaganda quality to make sure everyone aware of the role, responsibility and benefit when joining the voluntary medical insurance, says Nguyen Thi Xuan Mai, Vice-Director of Ninh Hoa Town Social Insurance.
Ninh Son Commune is a mountainous and disadvantaged area. The rate of 65% voluntary health insurance coverage is considered as an encouraging achievement. To reach a better result and fulfill the health insurance coverage plan, 2015-2020 period, more propaganda, inspection, administrative procedure reform, residents’ feedback collection, rectification of irregularities in the service and attitude of health care insurance workers and medical staff at local medical centers and stations are required in an effort to make sure local people fully understand health care insurance benefits, according to Le Ba Thuan, Vice-Chairman of Ninh Hoa Town People’s Committee.
