Vietnamese Family Day is celebrated anually on June 28 to honor traditional family values. Therefore, every year, Khanh Hoa Department of Culture & Sport, the Standing Agency of the Family Task Steering Board, issues documents on giving guidance on family tasks to local communities. This year, the documents have been sent to departments, agencies, organizations, People’s Committees of districts and towns to organize activities to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Vietnamese Family Day.
One of remarkable activities is the 2016 Happy Family Contest designed to provide opportunities for family clubs to meet and share knowledge and experience; and implement the National Action Month against Domestic Violence. The winner of the provincial contest will advance to the National Contest scheduled to be held by the Ministry of Culture & Sport in the time to come.
In addition, the Department of Culture & Sport has also cooperated with Khanh Hoa Radio & Television to boost propaganda via reportages on the occasion of the 15th anniversary of Vietnamese Family Day, implement the National Action Month against Domestic Violence; mobilize the masses to follow cultural lifestyles; and keep cultural, sustainable and happy families.
Besides, the Department of Culture & Sport has cooperated with local departments, agencies, organizations and communities to enhance education and propaganda; and integrate family tasks into the implementation of socio-economic development strategies and the movement “All people unite to build up the cultural life”. The focus has been put on building cultural families, communities, agencies and businesses. Every year, 90% of families, 60% of communities and 90% of agencies and businesses are recognized as cultural families, communities, agencies and businesses, according to Nguyen Khac Ha, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Culture & Sport.
Moreover, annually, the Department of Culture & Sport holds a training course on family tasks for local officials in charge of family tasks. The participants are provided knowledge about the laws on family violence prevention and control; gender equality, family and marriage; skills to organize activities for family groups and clubs; propagandize and give guidance and methods to make plans and build work regulations for anti-family violence groups and clubs.
Over the past years, the local authorities have paid much concern on the guidance, consulting and support for the implementation and expansion of anti-family violence models in communities, contributing greatly to raising public awareness of family members’ rights and responsibilities.
Family violence cases have been reported to be on the decrease in Khanh Hoa, according to a recent survey. There are 1,011 sustainable family clubs, 1,059 anti-domestic violence groups and 2,599 assistance addresses for family violence victims in Khanh Hoa.
Nguyen Khac Ha says to make the Vietnamese Family Day become more and more practical and effective, local departments, agencies, social and political organizations in Khanh Hoa Province need to base on actual circumstances when making plans for the day celebration with much propaganda conveying the theme, meanings and messages of the Vietnamese Family Day.
Specifically, it is essential to mobilize all people to prepare family meals; boost propaganda broadcasts in Khanh Hoa; organize social security activities; and mobilize enterprises to donate to public welfare works and child support programs to offer gifts and scholarships to children in need in Khanh Hoa.
Other necessary activities include seminars and talks to honor outstanding employees’ families; provide opportunities for sharing experience in child education; and honor the importance of family values and the role of families in social evil prevention and control.
