A contest in Cam Nghia Ward.

The "Delicious meal, healthy children" cooking contest in Cam Nghia Ward was filled with great excitement. Nearly 500 women took part in the event which included children’s height and weight measurement; a nutrition knowledge quiz and consulting provided by nutrition experts.

Maybe, the most exciting was a cooking contest joined by 20 mothers and children. Each family had 30 minutes to prepare a meal for 4 people. 2 main dishes were judged based on nutrition for healthy eyes and the kid’ favorite food. Mothers cooked and showed their kids how to decorate food.

“I am glad to take part in the event because it is an opportunity for me to widen my knowledge about nutrition and how to take good care of my family and bring up children,” says Le Tran Thi Kim Phuong, a teacher at Cam Nghia 1 Primary School.

Tran Thi Kim Phuong won the first prize in the meal with jellyfish salad, braised snakehead fish, boiled vegetables and eggs; fried shrimp, vegetable crab soup and lotus rice. The meal was praised for aesthetic appeal and nutrition for healthy eyes. “The contest provides an environment for women to know more about nurturing children. We hope to continue joining such practical activities,” adds Nguyen Thi Ca, Chairwoman of Cam Nghia Ward Women’s Association.

Hundreds of members also joined the "Delicious meal, healthy children" cooking contests held in the communes of Dien An, Dien Lac in Dien Khanh District and Ninh Sim Commune in Ninh Hoa Town. Most of the participants showed their pleasure to get more knowledge about food safety, nutrition and exchange experience in cooking and child care. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Nhung, Vo Kien Village, Dien An Commune, says, “Besides valuable family knowledge and advice, we know how to make plans and arrange time for preparing nutritional meals for families.”

The event was designed to honor responsible mothers and wives; provide child-nurturing knowledge and deliver a food safety message for sustainable and happy family life, according to Le Thi Mai Lien, Vice-Chairperson of Khanh Hoa Women’s Union.
