According to reports by Dien Khanh Social Insurance, more than 87,000 people are covered by health coverage. More than 10,000 people of the figure are covered by health insurance provided by other communities, accounting for 65% of the population of the district.

The figure is still low compared with the target of the health insurance coverage plan, period 2015 – 2020. Therefore, the district has strived to reach 75% of the population covered by health insurance by the end of this year.

“It is quite difficult to reach the target of 75% of the population covered by health insurance by the end of this year. In spite of preferential policies for those covered by health insurance, some people are not fully aware of benefits from health insurance coverage,” says Nguyen Dien, Director of Dien Khanh District Social Insurance.

Compared with other communities, Dien Khanh has met with more challenges in health insurance coverage boost, especially in voluntary health care insurance due to many reasons. Over the past years, the local authority together with organizations have mobilized health insurance coverage to every household.

The network of medical insurance card agents has been expanded. Only 3 organizations of the youth, women and farmers used to be engaged in working as heath insurance agents. More heath insurance agents will be set up in villages in the time to come.

To raise health insurance coverage rate, it is required to improve medical treatment quality, especially in districts and communes. Particularly, a hotline for health insurance is necessary to receive comments and feedback related to health insurance to improve health care service, according to Nguyen Thieu, Chairman of Dien Khanh People’s Committee.
