Cao Thi Dan, Thanh Son Commune, Khanh Son District  says, “In late 2015, my family was offered 2 breeding pigs. The first litter had 5 pigs. After some months, the 2 breeding pigs were transferred to other households. We will try to expand husbandry to raise income.”

Another resident named Cao Thi Nga was also provided with 2 breeding pigs and VND1.5 million to buy materials for weaving papooses sold at VND400,000 each, nearly half of which is the profit she can gain. Besides the 2 breeding pigs which produced 4 baby pigs in the first litter, her family bought 2 additional breeding pigs to expand production.

The 2 families mentioned above are among 22 beneficiaries from the livelihood support program worth VND20 million funded by Vietnam – France Friendship Association and Khanh Hoa Red Cross.

In addition, in 2 recent years, Khanh Hoa Red Cross has cooperated with Isabella Charity (France) to finance the construction of 17 houses in Khanh Nam Commune, Khanh Thanh Commune and Khanh Vinh Town in Khanh Vinh District with a financial aid of VND30 million. Furthermore, thanks to the sponsorship of the Biu Aid (Norway), Khanh Hoa Red Cross has built a VND505 million house for teachers at Le Van Tam Junior High School, Khanh Vinh District; 25km water supply pipes from Khanh Vinh Town to Hon Du Village, Khanh Nam Commune at a total cost of more than VND800 million.

Phan Dinh Huan, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Red Cross says Khanh Hoa Red Cross has mobilized  and cooperated with international charities to develop a livelihood, environmental hygiene and house construction support program for local residents in the 2 districts.

"In 2017, Khanh Hoa Red Cross plans to continue mobilizing the charities to expand the program to other communities. At present, Khanh  Hoa Red Cross is mobilizing organizations to offer scholarships to needy students in Khanh Hoa Province," adds Phan Dinh Huan.

“The program has helped many locals in housing need and provided sustainable livelihood opportunities to expand production and improve living standard to get out of poverty. We hope the program will continue to help more people in housing need,” says Phan Van Phuong, Chairman of Khanh Vinh Town People’s Committee.

“We learn about benefits of the program after a survey trip and thus we plan to offer more house construction grants in Khanh Vinh District and then in Dien Khanh District, Cam Lam District and Ninh Hoa Town,” says Hau Thi Thanh Duyen, a representative of Isabella Charity.
