The National Road 1 runs through Ninh Hoa Town.

Lieutenant-Colonel Nguyen Van Khai, Deputy Chief of the Road & Rail Traffic Division, Khanh Hoa Public Security has affirmed benefits of National Road 1, newly-upgraded with median strips, that it has helped decrease traffic accidents.

The 4-lane national road has facilitated travel and improve road safety. The speed increase by 10km/h decided by the Ministry of Transport on the National Road 1 has helped decrease 10-15% travel cost for transport businesses.

No traffic jam has been reported on the National Road 1, contributing to promoting travel and trade link among communities in Khanh Hoa Province and among central provinces. Vehicles passing toll collection stations have increased significantly, 6,000-8,000, up 20-30%, since the newly-built National Road was put into use.

Besides advantages, there remain some problems that need solving in the time to come, according to Nguyen Cong Dinh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport. A 2-lane turning road of the National Road 1, running through Dien Khanh District, is a one-way road.

Khanh Hoa Province has submitted to the Ministry of Transport a document on the construction of 2 fly-over bridges at the crossroads of the National road 1C (Ru Ri Pass) to increase traffic flow. The Ministry of Transport has also submitted the document to the Prime Minister for approval. Nguyen Van Khai has suggested installing signal lights at pedestrian crossings to improve road safety and facilitate travel, especially at night.

More lights are needed on the National Road 1 running through towns to improve traffic safety at night, suggests Mang Reo, Chief of Dien Khanh Public Security’s Traffic Unit.

Traffic police will boost patrols and in cooperation with local authorities and investors take measures to solve existing problems to assure traffic safety and security on the National Road 1, according to a leader of the Road & Rail Traffic Division.
