The Fauna and Flora International (FFI) announced on August 23 to have found the second biggest population of Trachypithecus delacouri in a forest in northern Vietnam.  The discovery is promising news for the survival of the endangered primate and thus urgent actions are recommended.

FFI scientists have carried out an investigation to determine the existence of Trachypithecus delacouri and said that they had found a population of around 40 individuals of Trachypithecus delacouri.

“Baby Trachypithecus delacouri have been found, which means the population will develop more if they are well protected,” says FFI Vietnam Biodiversity Technical Advisor Trinh Dinh Hoang.

They have informed Vietnam relevant agencies of the investigation result and will continue working with local officials and community to protect the species, according to FFI Vietnam Director Benjamin Rawson.
