There are more than 12,000 members at 105 association branches with a wide variety of activities. The campaign “Old age, good example” has been widely developed and integrated with “All people unite to build up the cultural life” campaign. Annually, 100% of families pledge to build cultural families, lead a civilized lifestyles in the celebration of wedding, mourning, longevity congratulatory ceremonies; join effort to create a learning society, promote leaning among children, grandchildren, etc.
 

The campaign “Senior citizens do good business” has drawn the participation of more than 7,000 members directly involved in business and production together with their children. Hundreds of farms and production models have been built with an average income of VND30-70 million a year. The “All people protect national security” campaign has also been boosted. They have actively joined social work, family conciliation as well as public work supervision in new rural construction programs, according to Ta Huu Truong, the Permanent Representative Board of the Elderly.


Under the tree cultivation campaign, 40,000 trees of all kinds have been planted, creating a green and beautiful scenery. Some affiliations have voluntarily taken responsibility for managing roads and joined clean-up effort to keep the environment in their communities clean and green.
 

In addition, the association at all levels has also focused on health care for its members. Free medical examination and medication have been provided. The association has done many activities to raise fund for its operation with VND1.2 billion so far. Needy members and families have been offered loans to invest in business and aquaculture. Since 2012, longevity congratulatory ceremonies have been organized for over 5.500 old people.
 

In addition, 2,800 old people have been granted free medical insurance cards. Since 2012, the association at all levels has regularly mobilized many medical organizations to pay visit and offer gifts worth over VND3 billion to more than 7,000 senior citizens.


 “Since 2012, the association together with Cam Ranh City General Hospital has provided free ocular examination for 3,800 poor patients, over 400 of whom have been given screening and surgery aid totaling more than VND1.8 billion. Most of the patients have gained vision after operation.
 

Medical trips have aimed at old people in coastal areas and ethnic minority communities with little access to health care services, according to Ta Huu Truong, the Permanent Representative Board of the Elderly. Policies for the elderly have been assured. At present, 2,500 old people are receiving sufficient benefits as regulated. The association has paid a visit and offered gifts to 9,000 senior citizens on national holidays and traditional day of the Vietnamese elderly (June 6).
 

Furthermore, more than 100 clubs namely internal martial arts, poetry, chess, badminton, grandparents-grandchildren, etc have been established to provide opportunities for the aged to meet, have fun, do physical and relaxation exercise to improve health.
 

In the time to come, Cam Ranh City Association for the Elderly at all levels is required to further encourage its members to join emulation campaigns, grassroots conciliation, traffic safety work and so on, according to Le Xuan Hanh, Chief of the Representative Board of Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly.
