The Heart Fund has just financed heart operation on 4 patients examined and determined for open surgery by doctors at Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City).

Nguyen Tan An in Cam Loi Ward, Cam Ranh City was given priority to be the first on the operation list. At the age of 2, Nguyen Tan An was found to have heart defects with breathing difficulties and tiredness. “However, my family depends on my monthly salary of only VND3 million, so we can’t afford his surgery. My child has been saved thanks to the heart charity fund. I’m so happy that his health has improved,” says his father named Nguyen Tan So.
22-year-old Le Ngoc Tan in Van Long Commune, Van Ninh District suffers from congenital heart defects. His father died young and his mother became a bread-winner of a big family of 5 members. Life was so hard that his mother could not afford his heart surgery. Le Ngoc Tan had to quit work many times because of his bad heart condition. “We are so happy to get support from the heart fund. We hope my child’s health will become better after operation and be able to work to earn his living,” says his mother Nguyen Thi Tien.
“The 4 cases mentioned above include 3 with damaged heart valves and 1 with congenital heart defects. The patients become serious due to delay in treatment. We are so respectful to the charity fund as it helps relieve financial burden of patients, helping us to save many lives,” says Dr. Le Thanh Khanh Van, Deputy Head of the Heart Surgery Recovery Department, Cho Ray Hospital.
Apart from the 4 patients, the charity fund in association with Khanh Hoa General Hospital has provided screening examination for people with heart diseases in Khanh Hoa Province. From now to the end of the year, more than 10 patients will receive aid worth VND20-30 million each from the fund. Khanh Hoa General Hospital will invite experts from Cho Ray Hospital to perform surgeries at Khanh Hoa General Hospital to save patients’ travel expenses.
The first fund-raising program on July 13 raised VND517 million for heart surgeries. VND500 million proceeds were sent to Khanh Hoa General Hospital in support of poor patients. The rest will be offered to other poor patients. Two fund-raising musical shows are expected to be held in October and the end of 2016 and broadcast on KTV. Besides, the event will be expanded to other districts and towns once a year. The proceeds will be used to fund poor patients’ operation. This year, Ninh Hoa Town is the first community chosen to implement the program, according to Truong Tan Minh, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Public Health Association, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Sponsoring Association for the Disabled, Orphans & Poor Patients, Head of the organizers of heart fund- raising program.
The Heart Fund is organized by Khanh Hoa Sponsoring Association for the Disabled, Orphans & Poor Patients in partnership with the Provincial Public Health Association, Khanh Hoa Radio & Television (KTV), provincial General Hospital and Au Lac Thinh Wedding and Conference Center Nha Trang. The fund provides a link to receive donation from benefactors to poor patients in Khanh Hoa Province.
