Over the past years, local authorities and departments in Khanh Hoa Province have paid great attention and concern over child care which has been shown through various activities, including Moon Festival celebration.

This year, Dien Tan Commune, Dien Khanh District was chosen by Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs to host the full moon night. More than 500 children in Dien Tan and neighboring communes took part in the interesting program which included musical performance, play-acting, unicorn dance and folk games. Besides, Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs offered 520 gifts containing moon cakes and lanterns to kids.


Cao Linh Sam, a Raglai child in Da Mai Village, Dien Tan Commune, says, “I used to learn about the Moon Festival only through books and television. Today, I’m so glad to join the festival where I can watch unicorn dance, a musical show, receive presents and eat moon cakes and candies.”
 

Nearly 50 orphans and disabled children at Khanh Hoa Social Service Center had great fun with unicorn dance show, folk games and parties with moon cakes. Chu Van Cong, Director of the center says, “All the children here are in adversity. The center holds the annual full moon night as an expression of warmth and affection for them.”

Huong Tu Charity Group, Ho Chi Minh City traveled a long distance to hold the Moon Festival and offer 1,500 gifts containing moon cakes, milk and lanterns to children in Giang Ly Commune and Cau Ba Commune, Khanh Vinh District. The volunteers themselves decorated the stage and created a warm festive atmosphere for poor kids. Ka Thi My, a T’Rin girl, says “We didn’t have lanterns and sweets last year’s event. We are so delighted to enjoy the exciting festivity.”


Local authorities and agencies have paid great concern over the care of children, especially poor, orphan, ethnic minority kids at social service institutions in an effort to bring kids a warm festivity, according to Trinh Thi Hop, Deputy Chairperson of Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs.
 

Over the past years, child care, education and protection has been focused in Khanh Hoa, specifically, children have had chance to care, study and entertain themselves. Nursery, primary and junior high school education universalization have been maintained. Great effort has been made to create a safe and sound environment and assure social welfare and rights protection for children.

More than 800 orphan and disabled children at social service institutions have been sent to public schools and many activities have been held to help them to reach full potential, flourish and achieve all-round success. Many activities have been held with gifts offered to 10,300 needy kids on the occasion of national holidays, International Children's Day and Moon Festival.


Besides monthly allowances as regulated, orphan, disabled and HIV-effected children receive local officials’ regular visit and support. Khanh Hoa Children’s Fund raises hundreds of million dongs for operation of cleft lip and congenital heart diseases.
 

At present, there more than 294,000 kid under 16 years of age in Khanh Hoa Province. Child care and protection has focus on skills and aptitude in children, many workshops and forums have been organized to provide an opportunity for kids to speak up their thoughts, ideas and questions which have been taken into consideration to improve child care and education and protection, according to Trinh Thi Hop.
