Cam Ranh: Flourishing young city

In recent years, Cam Ranh City has experienced significant growth, deserving a socio-economic center in the south of Khanh Hoa Province.

Change on Cam Ranh Bay

 

Cam Ranh City has seen much changes with spacious streets namely Le Duan, 3 Thang 4, Le Loi, Nguyen Du, Hoang Van Thu, etc. Streets with landmarks over 11m and total length of 139.15km have increased to 74. Small lanes have been widened and paved. In 2008, the statue of Uncle Ho was constructed and 18-10 Park was renovated to become a major destination for cultural activities of the city. Local residents’ living standard has much improved thanks to direct management of the city Party Committee and authorities.

 

Economic values have much increased. Specifically, the proportion of industry and construction was 48.2%; trade, service and tourism 32.1%; and agriculture 19.7% in 2010. The figures in 2015 were 61.1%, 28.5% and 10.4% respectively. New projects such as Cam Thinh High Quality Salanganes Nest Soft Drink Factory, Cam Ranh Cement Grinding Station, Cam Ranh Wood Processing Factory, Cong Thanh Cement Factory, Cat Phu Wood Processing Factory, etc have contributed to promoting economic development in Cam Ranh and creating job opportunities for thousands of locals.

 

In addition, ecotourism destinations such as Ngoc Suong, Cam Ranh Hot Mineral Spring and Binh Lap have added attraction to the city. Supermarkets namely Maximark, Co.opmart together with 15 big and small markets located throughout the city have met the local shopping demand. Apart from the mainland, island communities have also benefited from much improvement in living standards. The local residents’ income in Cam Binh Commune, including Binh Ba and Binh Hung Islands, is higher than the average income of the whole city. At present, there are 4,600 lobster cages in the commune, producing an output of over 200 tons of lobster every year, according to Nguyen An, Chairman of Cam Binh Commune People’s Committee.

 

Nguyen Binh Nam, Chief of Cam Ranh City Urban Management Office, says after 6 years having recognized to be a city, Cam Ranh has invested tens of billions of dongs in the socio-economic development master planning till 2020; land use planning in the city and 9 inner wards till 2020; city construction general planning till 2035 and so on. These are bases for the construction of a vibrant and flourishing city in the future. 

 

Prospects

 

Under the general planning of Khanh Hoa Tourism till 2020, Cam Ranh City located southern Khanh Hoa Province plays a major role in promoting the general development of the whole province, the Southern Central region and the highlands.

 

Nguyen Huu Dung, Chairman of Cam Ranh City People’s Committee says Cam Ranh City is of great significance among 3 national tourism centers namely Nha Trang (Khanh Hoa), Ninh Chu (Ninh Thuan) and Da Lat (Lam Dong). It has a favorable strategic geographical location, facilitating tourist travel and tourism development. With the convenient traffic system, including Cam Ranh International Airport, Cam Ranh City is considered as an important air, road, sea and rail traffic joint. The city strives to develop into a center of economics, technical science; a city of industry, trade, service and ecotourism in southern Khanh Hoa. 

 

Promising big projects include Cam Ranh Bay coast urban zone, Cam Ranh Ecotourism Resort, Dong Hai Trade, Service & Hotel, Southern Cam Ranh Industrial zone, etc. If implemented on schedule, the projects are expected to provide a considerable stimulus to the city development as the year progresses. Under the direction for the period 2015-2020, Cam Ranh City plans to close and remove cemeteries located inside the city to assure urban hygiene. The city has also constructed and renovated houses along main streets to create ecological attraction to the city.

 

In the future, Cam Ranh City center will be a beach city with space mainly connected to Cam Ranh Bay and priority given to coastal service complex. Residential areas include mainly low buildings suitable for the climate and allowing sea view from far away. Cam Lap Commune will be a friendly sea tourism zone. Buildings are required to have decreasing height from main streets leading to the beach, according Nguyen Huu Dung.

 

As planned, the total budget in Cam Ranh City increases by 16-18% annually, 2.2% increase by 2020 compared with 2015. The industrial production and construction value is up 20-21%/year; trade and service up 16.2%/ year. The export turnover increases by 24.5%/ year, reaching USD96 million by 2020. The total social investment capital,  period 2015-2020, reaches VND30,000 billion, including VND760 billion from the local budget, is up by 3.5 compared with the period 2010-2015.
