The 8th international conference on the East Sea themed “Cooperation for Regional Security and Development” took place in Nha Trang City on November 14. The event was held by the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam (DAV), Foundation for East Sea Studies (FESS) and Vietnam Lawyers’ Association (VLA). Le Thanh Quang, Central Party Committee Member, Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Secretary attended the event. The conference was presided over by Professor – PhD Nguyen Vu Tung, Director of DAV; and Nguyen Van Quyen, President of VLA with the participation of more than 200 representatives at home and abroad. The world’s leading experts made around 30 presentations on international relation, international law, sea security and cooperation.

The discussion sessions addressed the following topics: the Origins of the East Sea Disputes: Historical Perspectives; Whither the East Sea Tensions; International Law and the East Sea; The political Economy of the East Sea: Issues and Prospects; Security, Politics and Diplomacy; Interactions and Coordination at Sea; Mechanisms for Managing the East Sea Tensions, etc.
Besides, the Young Leaders Program attracted 8 young scholars and PhD candidates from 7 countries to gather to discuss ways and initiatives to foster cooperation in the East Sea to maintain peace and stability.
