National Road 1 full of landslide debris after heavy rain.

Heavy rain battered the region, triggering landslide on the National Road 1 running through Vinh Phuoc Commune, Vinh Luong and blocked one way of the road at 23h on December 12. The Road Management Department III.3 crew together with contractors joined urgent effort to clear the debris to facilitate travel.

The floods damaged the road surface for 250m2 at Km1442+500 – Km1443+000, washed away the talus at the Km1443+800 – Km1443+920 and broke 120m of the median strip. Besides, 10 sections on the National Road 1 running through Nha Trang City were flooded, bringing traffic to standstill and inundating houses. Road Management Department III.3 immediately asked the contractors to use excavators and bulldozers to clear landslide debris. 4 traffic police crews were mobilized to be on standby at flooded areas to distribute traffic flow and facilitate travel.

The National Road 1 running through in Cam Nghia Ward, Cam Ranh City, was also severely flooded. The road talus was damaged for about 15m3. 194 Construction Investment Company, which manages the national road section, undertook urgent patching to assure traffic safety. Bui Duc Huong, Vice-Director of the Project Management Board of National Road 1 running through Khanh Hoa Province says, the unfavorable weather is likely to continue with prolonged rain. The Project Management Board 7 assigned its patrol crew to deal with any emergencies and temporary repairs to assure traffic safety. More extensive repairs with heavy patching will continue after rainy days. The entire National Road 1 reopened at 11h on December 13.

The floodwater with landslides blocked 1 side of the National Road 1 at Ru Ri Pass. The floodwater badly damaged or deformed  200m of the road and 500m of ditches and culverts at Ru Ri Pass. 2 excavators and bulldozers were used to remove the landslide debris to assure traffic safety, says Nguyen Cong Dinh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport.

Khanh Hoa Register Motor Vehicle Center was also badly flooded. Its wall fence and glass doors were broken. Many documents were lost. The underground machinery maintenance zone was damaged. Therefore, the department has issued an announcement of temporary closing of the Register Motor Vehicle Center to repair the damage.

It is urgent to assure traffic safety in the rainy season. Contractors and investors have been asked to cooperate with local authorities, traffic police and road management units to urgently repair road damages to prevent standstill, says Le Duc Viet, Deputy Chief of Traffic Safety Department, Ministry of Transport.
