On December 2, Khanh Hoa Rehabilitation Education Center for Disabled Children held a meeting to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (December 3). This year’s event is themed “Achieving 17 Goals for the Future We Want, which draws attention to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals and how these goals can create a more inclusive and equitable world for persons with disabilities.”
 
In 1993, the United Nations proclaimed 3 December as the International Day of Persons with Disabilities in order to confirm the international communities and countries’ responsibility for providing assistance, support and integration opportunities for the disabled; as well as honor outstanding persons with disabilities. At present, there are more than 700 million disabled people in the world, including over 6.7 million in Vietnam.
 
Various activities for the disabled have been organized in Khanh Hoa Province for many years. Khanh Hoa People’s committee has issued a plan to develop a disability assistance project, period 2014-2020 in Khanh Hoa at a total cost of more than VND48.23 billion. In 2016, Khanh Hoa Rehabilitation Education Center for Disabled Children has given screening examination for over 3,600 disabled people in the community; provided physiotherapy for over 1,880 people; conducted orthopedic surgery on 15 kids; attended to and taught 148 kids with disabilities at the center.
