“The heavy rains have damaged my 5 poles of maize and coffee crops. Suffering from lost income or damages after the flood, we are in need of food assistance. My neighbors are also in the same situation,” says Cao Rieng, a resident in Doc Gao Village, To Hap Town.

Many ethnic minority people in Ta Luong Village and Doc Gao Village are struggling to afford food and thus in need of food aid after the devastating flood, Nguyen Quoc Thai, Chairman of To Hap Town People’s Committee says, adding that, “Since November, the town has provided urgent aid for 17 policy beneficiaries and poor people to make sure that locals have enough to eat. On December 21, we continued offering rice to 85 flood-hit families, each receiving 15kg of rice.”

12 households in Cam Khanh Village were offered 10kg of rice and 1 cardboard box of instant noodles each. Besides, Khanh Son District military unit has delivered relief and some dry provisions to 7 families in Ha Nit Village, which was cut off by floodwater, according to Cao Thi Hang, Vice-Chairperson of Son Lam Commune People’s Committee.

On December 20, Khanh Son District People’s Committee directed communities to survey affected families to provide relief, including food, to help them to recover from the natural disaster and return to normal life and productivity.

In addition, the district has requested relevant agencies, communes and the town to speed up repairing damages to clean water and power supply systems; preventing epidemic; and continue surveying landslide risk for emergency response and evacuation plans. Massive operation is underway to repair damages to public traffic and irrigation constructions to facilitate traffic and production, according to Dinh Ngoc Binh, Chairman of Khanh Son District People’s Committee.
