More than 3,000 gifts offered by the Youth’s Club for the Homeland Sea and Islands are going to be delivered to soldiers and residents in Truong Sa Island District.

Through the program on bringing New Year gifts from the mainland to the islands, the club has connected many people, received gifts and together with a mission, taken a trip to visit and deliver the gifts to soldiers and residents on Spratly Islands and DK1 platforms. Thousands of public sector staff, businessmen, teachers donated to the program from November 23 to December 15 with the hope to share new year warmth and happiness to those on the islands, says Nguyen Thi Thu Huong, Director of the Youth’s Club for the Homeland Sea and Islands.
This year, the program has mobilized some 3,000 gifts, including traditional sticky rice cakes (chung cakes) and specialties nationwide such as Hanoi spring rolls, Thai Nguyen tea, Ben Tre coconut milk candies, etc worth VND600 million. 3 gifts have been given to 3 mission ships at the departure ceremony. The gifts are from all parts of the homeland to the islands as an expression of affectation and appreciation of people on the mainland for those on the far-off islands. The activity of the club is highly honored, contributing to celebrating a warm New Year holiday for officials, soldiers and residents in the island district, according to Bui Dinh Duong, Chairman of Truong Sa District People’s Committee.
Together with material gifts are spiritual presents, including letters to sea soldiers from their relatives, lovers, friends, etc. There are 2,017 New Year greeting letters from teachers and students at Trung Van Primary School, Hanoi; 21 New Year greeting letters and cards from Nguyen Thi Kim Dien, Nha Trang City, to officials and soldiers working on the islands. Besides, many VND50,000 Viettel mobile recharge cards are sent to soldiers to improve connection with the mainland.
The Youth’s Club for the Homeland Sea and Islands is a charitable organization under Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union. Founded in 2015, the club has drawn more than 1,000 members to join the homeland sea and island journey held by the Central Youth Union or Vietnam People's Navy.
The club has organized several practical activities such as bringing 2,016 chung cakes to the Spratly Islands and DK1 platforms; taking a homeland sea and island journey; organizing Children’s festival for 1,600 children of officials and soldiers working on the Spratly Islands and DK1 platforms; granting hundreds of foreign language and photography scholarships for returnees, etc. “The activity is really helpful. Joining the club, I want to contribute to the homeland sea and islands and I will call for more participation in the activity,” says Le Tuan, a lecturer at Hanoi University of Technology, a club member.
