The widespread flooding in December resulted in damage to a number of roads in Khanh Hoa Province. Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has made plans on road network repair to facilitate travel and assure traffic safety during the lunar New Year holiday.

The National Road 1 is the worst-damaged with 20,000 m2 of the road surface, sewerage and taluses destroyed in many locations. The contractors are surveying the damages to calculate repair cost. Nguyen Tat Thanh Avenue is also strewn with potholes cracked due to heavy traffic and flooding. In some places, locals have filled the big holes up with branches to warn travelers of the danger. Urgent patching as temporary repair has been undertaken to assure traffic safety.

Besides, other damaged roads are the National Road 27C, Provincial Road 9, National Road 1C, Tran Phu Street, Provincial Road 2, Provincial Road 5, Provincial Road 8, Provincial Road 8B, Lap Dinh- Suoi Mon, etc. Flooded roads and 12,000 m2 of landslide debris led to travel disruption in many places on December 15-19, according to Nguyen Van Truc, Chief of the Infrastructure Management Office, (Department of Transport).


Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has directed road management units to accelerate removing debris; contractors to clear ditches and culverts to protect road surface and public works on roads. Inspectors of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport and road management units have cooperated with local authorities to put up warning signs at landslide and flooding locations to give  instructions to drivers. Relevant agencies in association with local constancy, design and management units to measure road damages. The total cost for the road repair is expected at VND43 billion, according to report by Khanh Hoa Department of Transport.


According to Ta Thanh Tinh, Chief of the Road Management Division III3, contractors fixed the National Road on December 20, right after the flood. After checking the repair work, Vietnam Road Administration has requested investors and contractors to complete the repairs before the 29th of the last lunar month.


Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has made a plan to advance VND10 billion to make temporary repair to damaged roads to facilitate travel during the lunar New Year holiday. More extensive repairs will continue after rainy days, says Nguyen Cong Dinh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport.
