At present, no school in Khanh Hoa Province has swimming pool; therefore, some schools took the initiative in teaching pupils swimming skills at the swimming pools.

After receiving approval of the provincial Department of Education and Training and agreement from pupils’ parents, since the 2014-2015 school year, Tran Hung Dao High School (Cam Ranh) hired the swimming pool of Cam Ranh Spa Joint Stock Company to teach the pupils swimming and drowning prevention skills. As of now, the school holds 39 swimming classes for more than 1,400 pupils; after swimming course, over 99% of learners can swim. The pupils who cannot swim yet will join the course again. “All pupils have actively taken part in the swimming classes which are taught by the school’s physical education teachers like an elective. Apart from the fee which bases on the pool rental agreement between the pupils’ parents and the company, there are no other fees required. Therefore, the fee is relatively low,” said principal of Tran Hung Dao High School Nguyen Van Tue.

The swimming course of Nguyen Van Troi High School (Nha Trang City) started from the 2015-2016 school year. Being supported by both pupils and their parents, in the 2016-2017 school year, the school keeps holding swimming classes for tenth and eleventh grade pupils at Yet Kieu Swimming Pool. The pupils are offered lessons on basic swimming skills and water safety.

iSchool Nha Trang also holds swimming classes for its pupils at Yet Kieu Swimming Pool since 2014. The fee for the swimming course (which is, in fact, the pool rental) is VND900 thousand per year. So far the school’s physical education teachers in association with Yet Kieu Swimming Pool’s instructors have taught nearly 200 junior pupils, according to Nguyen The Dat, Chief of Secretariat of iSchool Nha Trang. In the second term of the 2016-2017 school year, over 300 tenth grade pupils are being expected to join swimming course.

Beside some schools where swimming is incorporated into the school curriculum, there are also some high schools like Hoang Hoa Tham (Dien Khanh District), Huynh Thuc Khang, Le Hong Phong (Van Ninh District) which have given pupils the instructions on drowning prevention skills at the flag-rising time or meetings.

Additionally, the bureaus of education and training organized training courses for the physical education teachers of the primary schools and junior high schools across the province. Since the 2013-2014 school year, Nha Trang City and Cam Lam District Bureaus of Education and Training have held summer courses teaching swimming and water safety to primary and junior pupils.

Hopefully, there will be more and more schools and units which hold swimming classes for the sake of pupils’ physical health and safety in water.
