Local authorities have organized several activities to help social welfare beneficiaries and vulnerable people to have a warm and fulfilled New Year holiday.

“On national holidays, leaders of the province, district and commune visit and offer New Year gifts to my family. It is such a great encouragement to me to try my best to promote the revolutionary tradition and educate children to study hard to become good members in society,” says Ho Sy Quang, a war invalid in Van Phu Commune, Van Ninh District.
Since late-December 2016, Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, War Invalids & Social Affairs has made a detailed plan on New Year celebration for social welfare beneficiaries. “Great effort has been made to assure a warm New Year holiday for all people,” says Le Huu Tho, Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs.
This Lunar New Year holiday, more than 12,500 social welfare beneficiaries and revolutionaries have received gifts worth VND200,000-400,000 each, VND2.6 billion in total from the State President. Besides, Khanh Hoa Province has offered over VND7.2 billion worth of New Year presents to revolutionaries. In addition, Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has directed local agencies and communities to pay monthly preferential grants totaling VND11.1 billion/ month to revolutionaries before the New Year holiday.
Moreover, Khanh Hoa Province has located over VND21 billion and 990 tons of rice to social welfare beneficiates, families in need and those affected by flood. Public participation has been boosted as a joint effort to improve the life of the disadvantaged. “My family has received New Year gifts funded by local authorities, agencies and businesses,” says Bo Bo Thang, a poor family in Son Hiep Commune, Khanh Son District.
All communities have already given grants-in-aid under the decision of the State President and Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee. The Provincial Fatherland Front Committee has mobilized organizations, businesses and people from all walks of life to provide financial support for the poor to celebrate the Lunar New Year festival. Provincial leaders have founded delegations to inspect and visit production establishments, military units, etc before, during and after Tet.
New Year celebration for the disadvantaged and vulnerable people has been assured at social service establishments in Khanh Hoa Province. More than 250 people have received new clothes, shoes and VND50,000 each/ day for the first 4 days of the Lunar New Year. Besides, a New Year program with Vietnamese traditional cake wrapping and musical performance has been held, according to Chu Van Cong, Director of Khanh Hoa Social Service Center. The New Year celebration at Nha Trang SOS Children’s Village for 193 orphans includes a spring fair, a chung cake wrapping contest, a New Year meeting, lucky money offer, a New Year trip to places of cultural interest, etc.
Local authorities and organizations are putting all their effort to bring a warm Lunar New Year festival to all social welfare beneficiaries and people in need.
