Some meetings in the framework of APEC 2017 took place in Nha Trang City on February 18 and 19. During the 2 days, over 390 delegates from APEC member economies together with regional and international organizations attended meetings, dialogues and workshops on Human Resources Development, Emergency Preparedness, Anti-Corruption and Transparency; Policy Partnership on Science, Technology and Innovation; Intellectual Property Rights Experts Group; Experts Group on Illegal Logging and Associated Trade.

Phan Van Sau, Central Party Committee Member and Government Inspector General of Vietnam delivered an inaugural speech in the APEC Workshop on promoting social engagement in fighting corruption (Anti-Corruption and Transparency Working Group). Present at the event was Nguyen Duy Bac, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee.
At the meetings and dialogues, delegates discussed cooperation strategies of working groups in 2017, checked progress of initiatives and projects that had been developed and gave suggestions on measures and initiatives in cooperation in training young scientists in the region, promoting technological transfer, applying science and technology in disaster risk reduction; facilitating business mobility; promoting legal trade in harvested wood products and strengthening supply chain connectivity towards sustainable growth.
The delegates also discussed and shared experience in intellectual property human resources development for developing economies; use and commercial exploitation of intellectual property rights; and social engagement promotion in anti-corruption. Many assistance projects on emergency preparedness, business innovation, etc to improve the capacity of member economics were proposed to collect members’ ideas and suggestion.
APEC 2017 is under way in Nha Trang City till March 3 with several activities, including the most important events namely Senior Officials’ Meeting, Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting. Meetings and workshops on customs procedures and competitiveness to remove trade barriers for goods and services, etc are taking place in Nha Trang City today, February 20.
