The First Senior Officials' Meeting (SOM 1) is scheduled to take place in Nha Trang City from February 18 to March 3 in the framework of the Asia-Pacific economic (APEC) forum. Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has cooperated with APEC 2017 National Secretariat to prepare for the important event in Nha Trang City.
SOM 1 will begin series of APEC 2017 events, including Senior Officials’ Meeting, Finance and Central bank Deputies’ Meeting with 59 related meetings and workshops of 38 groups from 13 member ministries and departments of the APEC 2017 National Committee. The event will focus on such topics as trade and investment liberalization; business facilitation, climate change response, human resources development, education, businessmen travel facilitation; ocean and fishing, e-commerce and services.
The meetings will be attended by 1,500 delegates and reporters at home and abroad. Chairman of APEC Senior Officials’ Meetings in 2017, Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son will preside over the SOM1 and the meeting of Chairman’s Friends Meeting on connectivity.
The Organization Steering Committee and Khanh Hoa Province has cooperated with APEC 2017 National Secretariat and central agencies to get ready for APEC 2017 activities in terms of facilities, logistics services, security, health care, traffic safety, etc. Receptionists, tour guides and volunteers, including university students in Khanh Hoa Province have been trained to serve the event. On this occasion, APEC Finance and Central Bank Deputies’ Meeting presided by the Ministry of Finance will also take place in Nha Trang City.
Local departments, agencies and businesses have completed preparation in terms of infrastructures, means of transport, power supply, communications, environment, urban landscape, emergency, food safety, reception, assistance for delegates and reporters; and sight-seeing tours. Nha Trang City has been decorated with APEC logo seen in Tran Phu Street, many meeting venues and tourist destinations.
On this occasion, Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has also held activities to promote local socio-economics, culture and people through exhibitions of specialties, photos, Nha Trang tour books and DVDs, tours to places of interest such as Ponagar Temples, Chong Rock, Yersin Museum, Khanh Hoa Aloe Wood and art shows.
Khanh Hoa Press Center is located at 46 Tran Phu, facilitating local and foreign reporters’ work. Khanh Hoa Province has built a column about APEC in Khanh Hoa and general socio-economics and investment promotion to local and international delegations and agencies. APEC is known as one of Vietnam’s 2017 major foreign affairs events expected to be held in many places namely Khanh Hoa, Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Hoi An (Quang Nam), Can Tho and Ha Long (Quang Ninh).
