The first phase of the project to Intensify Community-Based Malaria Control Targeting Key Risk Groups, and Enhance the Functionality and Sustainability of Vietnam's Malaria Control Efforts, period 2016 – 2017 in Khanh Hoa Province has just been completed.

In this period, the project provided early diagnosis and treatment for hundreds of locals in malaria endemic areas; conducted more than 36,000 Malaria rapid diagnostic tests for medical institutions; and given effective malaria treatment for 99% people infected with malaria. The 2nd phase of the project is designed to continue strengthening propaganda and supply of long-lasting insecticidal nets in malaria endemic areas, routine malaria control surveillance; and improving the community’s malaria control behavior and awareness. In 2016, 422 malaria cases were reported in Khanh Hoa, down by 33,3%, a year-on-year decrease of 45%, and no malaria mortality was claimed.

The project financed by Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria has been developed in 31 cities and provinces, including Khanh Hoa.
