Since 2015, the government and public security of Phuong Sai and Phuoc Tien Wards, Nha Trang City have installed community-funded security cameras in many streets and the work has proved effective.

Public consent and support
Phuong Sai is the first ward to have implemented the security camera model since 2015. 5 security cameras were installed in Ben Ca and Cau Ho in April 2015. A resident named Tran Quang Hung says, “After the lighting and security camera systems were installed, the local order and security have much improved. The model is efficient and thus it deserves my contribution.”
From the initial success, Phuong Sai Ward Public Security has evaluated the effectiveness and made a scheme to provide the ward Party Committee and People’s Committee to propagandize the model to residents and call for the public participation in the model. Thanks to the local residents’ support and contribution, the model has been implemented in 10 residential quarters with 43 security cameras funded by the community.
In late 2015, Phuoc Tien Ward People’s Committee and public security piloted the security camera model in Le Dai Hanh Street and public security participation was encouraged. A resident named Nguyen Phuoc, 15 Le Dai Hanh says, “I have donated to the model like many others. I’m willing to continue contributing to the security camera maintenance.”
Effectiveness
Major Ngo This Thuy, Phuoc Sai Ward Public Security says, “Video clips from surveillance cameras are valuable resources for investigation. The camera system was completed in late December 2016 with its data connected to the Information Center.” The surveillance camera system was put into operation in Le Dai Hanh Street in December 2015; and then in Bui Thi Xuan, Le Quy Don and Co Bac in February 2016.
According to a leader of Phuoc Tien Ward Public Security, the camera system has helped crime and delinquency prevention and control. Some thefts of bikes and motorbikes have been on cameras, etc.“The public security camera system has proved effective in crime control and prevention, contributing to maintaining security, promoting the campaign “All people protect national security”, raising property or personal security awareness. We have evaluated the model, made reports and provided the directorate of Khanh Hoa Provincial Public Security with consultancy to direct the city public security on the model expansion throughout the city,” reports Senior lieutenant-colonel Nguyen Hong Ky, Chief of Nha Trang Public Security.
