Young doctors at Khanh Hoa General Hospital have just taken a medical trip to Dien Tan Commune, Dien Khanh District, providing medical consultancy, examination, treatment and medications free of charge for local patients.

A resident named Mang Lien, Da Mai Village, says he has been suffering from a pain in his left leg for 1 year. He has got treatment at the local medical station and he was happy to be examined by doctors from Khanh Hoa General Hospital.  86-year-old Nguyen Soi, Lang Nhot Village came early to seek for treatment for his appetite loss and burred vision. 150 patients were given free medical examination and medications in the morning alone.
 
Khanh Hoa Young Doctors’ Association in partnership with Khanh Hoa General Hospital regularly takes medical volunteer trips, benefiting mostly policy benefactions, children, old people and disadvantaged communities. This has been the 2nd charity trip since the beginning of the year. Other charity trips are expected to be taken in other disadvantaged areas this year, says Doctor Pham Thi Thu Hong, Department of General Internal Medicine – Neurology, Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa General Hospital Youth Union Branch. A resident named Dao Thi Hong in Dien Tan Commune says, “The doctors have traveled a long way to come here to give us medical examination. I hope the activity will remain in the years to come.” 
 
Since its foundation in April 2014, Khanh Hoa Young Doctors’ Association has had 9 clubs with about 900 members. Over the past year, the association has maintained its voluntary health care and social security work for the community’s life such as providing free medical examination and medications for social welfare beneficiaries, disabled children, poor people and flood-hit communities; dental and oral care; cleft lip and palate repair surgeries; congenital heart surgery, mobility disability surgery, eye surgery for the aged, etc.
 
In 2016 alone, Khanh Hoa Young Doctors’ Association provided medical examination and medications for more than 2,800 people in many disadvantaged communities in Khanh Hoa and in Laos. Its clubs organized various charity activities. The Young Doctors’ Club of Cam Ranh General Hospital jointly provided free medical examination and medications for 1,130 patient arrivals. The Young Doctors’ Club of Cam Lam District provided free medical examination and medications for 200 old people and Agent Orange victims and home health care for 2 social welfare beneficiaries. The Young Doctors’ Club of Khanh Hoa General Hospital held many volunteering activities, especially sending 11 Youth Union members to provide free medical examination for 1,000 residents in Laos. Besides, Young doctors’ contribution to social work was also shown through voluntary blood donation with many registering to join the blood bank.
 
With the guideline “Young doctors volunteer for the community’s health”, physicians of Khanh Hoa Young Doctors’ Association have joined effort to help the disadvantaged. “In 2017, we continue to implement activities with such targets as medical examination and medications for 10,000 social welfare beneficiaries and poor people; free eye surgery for 20 old people, 8,000 units of blood donated by members and young people; cancer screening for 100 people and so on.
 
Khanh Hoa Young Doctors’ Association is one of the key organizations in the youth volunteer campaign in Khanh Hoa. We will continue giving resource support to activities of Khanh Hoa Young Doctors’ Association as well as encouraging young physicians to improve their professional knowledge and skills and promote their enthusiasm for their career; and organizing many practical health care activities, says Nguyen Van Nhuan, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Youth Union, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Youth Federation.
