At present, there are 186 primary schools, including 97 day-boarding schools in Khanh Hoa Province. Other 89 are also going to serve lunches to pupils. The nutritionally-balanced diet software is expected to be a solution to the rising demand for day-boarding. Menus are made based on the nutritionally balanced diet software to build a healthy eating habit to monitor diet quality; and prevent obesity and malnutrition for all -round growth, says Nguyen Thi Lam, former Vice-Director of National Institute of Nutrition.

The nutritionally-balanced diet software allows users to choose balanced meals from 120 menus with more than 360 dishes. Each menu contains 3 dishes. Users can also make their own menus from dishes to suit their tastes and dietary requirements; check nutrition balance and review the cost.

The software has been approved by the Ministry of Education & Training via the Decision No. 196/QĐ-BGDĐT. Departments of Education & Training have held workshops to develop the software in Khanh Hoa, Lang Son, Ho Chi Minh City, Cao Bang, Tien Giang, etc. Schools will register for using the software in March and each school will have one account. Schools will be given support for the software use.

Reportedly, the software is under the project “school meal” developed by the Ministry of Education & Training in partnership with the National Institute of Nutrition and Ajinomoto Vietnam Company since 2012. More than 441 schools in 3 big cities namely Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang, Hai Phong and other cities and provinces have used the software so far. It is expected to be a useful tool for primary schools to prepare nutritious meals which suit the taste of each region, helping provide nutritional knowledge and promote healthy eating.
