Joining the program were eight teams consisting of 80 pupils (of 3rd, 4th and 5th grade) and officials and teachers from eight bureaux of education and training in Khanh Hoa Province. The program included many contents and hands-on traffic situations which were designed to be suitable for pupils.

In the talent event, the teams performed many lively self-arranged items with folk songs, children’s song, shanties and “vè” (Vietnamese poetic and song form), which conveyed many meaningful messages about the safety in traffic to the audience. The pupils also showed their creativeness in drawing event. In 30 minutes, the little participants performed a good cooperation to create pictures with tight layouts and bright colors. The pictures highlighted the theme of the program and also reflected the pupils’ dreams of a modern and safe transport system. The pupils also had opportunity to show their knowledge of traffic through answering many questions about different types of traffic signs and things to ensure the safety when joining traffic.

Besides, the program included a contest for teachers in which each teacher taught a traffic safety lesson. The teachers also took part in a seminar called “Innovating educational method of traffic safety in primary schools”. Reportedly, in order to create an excitement in pupils on this subject, many teachers have searched for and created teaching aids; conveyed the lessons in new teaching methods; applied new information technologies in teaching; held outdoor classes so that the pupils can take part in practical activities.

“This traffic safety education program for pupils is also an opportunity for the teachers to share experience in teaching and learn from each other in order to improve the teaching quality of this subject in schools,” said Tran Thi Mai Dao (To Hap Town Primary School, Khanh Son District).

As reported by Vice-Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Education and Training Hoang Thi Ly, since the traffic safety education program for primary pupils has been officially included in the curriculum in 2002-2003 school year, a wealth of knowledge about the safety in traffic has been given to pupils. Additionally, in traffic safety classes, the pupils can take part in some activities related to common traffic situations. Through the activities like the traffic safety education program for pupils, the pupils are expected to become propagandists of traffic safety at schools, families and communities.
