Robocon 2017 held by Telecommunications University for third time has helped inspire scientific initiatives and research among students.

Robocon 2017 themed “Joining hands to protect marine environment” drew the participation of 16 teams from  Telecommunications University and Air Force Academy. Coming up with the idea from Community Coastal Clean-up campaign, each team created 1 or 2 robots for transporting and colleting trash from coastal areas to trash containers; transporting trash on collection boats within 3 minutes.

Since 2015, Robocon has become an annual event for students at academies and schools in Nha Trang City. The event is designed to provide opportunities for student to promote and pursue their scientific studies. Particularly, this year’s event has contributed to promote the clean-up campaign in a bid to raise public awareness of marine protection responsibilities, says Colonel Nguyen Ha Hai, Chief of the Military Science Department, Head of the organizing board.

Robocon 2017 increased its standard requirement. Participating teams showed their optimal technical and tactical measures. The robotic competition basically satisfied the expectation of the steering board, organizing board and the audience.

Nguyen Cong Tai, Head of the Robocon team of Battalion 14, Telecommunications University said this year, his team had spent more time for designing and programming the robot which is fully automatic. The materials used are mostly recycled products. They just bought such components as a motor controller, a tracking module, etc.

“The robots were designed at night because the students had lessons in the daytime. The robots were designed, installed and then operated for trial. It took us 2 months to make the robot. The contest promoted our interest in scientific creation and research,” he adds.

The contest has expanded among students at academies and military schools in Nha Trang City. Robot designs are more exquisite than those in previous years. The robotic competition was more thrilling and the robots accomplished tasks more accurately.

Robocon 2017 has ended. The first prize went to the team SQd141/ Battalion 14, the second prize to DH1-Friendly/ information technology department and the third prize to SQ0/ battalion 26. Besides, 2 consolation prizes, 1 creativeness award and 1 design award were also presented. All the winning teams were from Telecommunications University, according to Colonel Nguyen Nhu Thang, Vice- Principal of Telecommunications University.
