Many Youth Union members, young people and local residents have just taken part in a coastal clean-up event themed Khanh Hoa Youth Day for the homeland sea and islands held by Khanh Hoa Youth Union at Vinh Luong Fishing Port, Nha Trang City.

“Marine environment is increasingly polluted by human trash. I’m pleased with the clean-up event which has helped raise public awareness of marine environmental conservation,” says Nguyen Van Hai, a fisherman in Vinh Luong.

Nha Trang City Youth Union regularly organizes several coastal clean-up activities in Nha Trang. Every year, Nha Trang City Youth Union directs its Youth Union affiliations to launch clean-up days in urban and coastal areas; propagandize coastal clean-up campaigns, contributing to keeping the urban environment green and healthy and reducing marine environmental pollution. At weekend, Youth Union members in coastal areas join effort to collect trash on beaches. In the time to come, more marine environmental protection activities will be boosted, according to Le Quang Minh, Secretary of Nha Trang City Youth Union.

Marine environmental clean-up and protection activities have been organized in many localities throughout Khanh Hoa Province, drawing the participation of many Youth Union members, agencies and local residents to fix up and conserve the environment. Propaganda has reached every school through various activities, for example a knowledge contest on marine environment jointly held by Nha Trang City People’s Committee at primary schools located in coastal areas in Nha Trang City, providing a good chance for pupils to widen their knowledge about the sea, environmental responsibilities and the benefits of preserving biodiversity and ecosystem; etc.

The Youth Union branches of Khanh Hoa Party Agencies, Khanh Hoa Department of Statistics, Me Trang Coffee Company and Bich Dam Border Station have shown Youth Union members’ environmental responsibilities through offering gifts to disadvantaged beneficiaries of social welfare and organizing clean-up days on Bich Dam Island.

Marine protection campaigns namely “Voluntary Saturday”, “Green Sunday” and beach clean-up days are regularly held by Youth Union affiliations with a variety of practical activities. “Protecting the sea is protecting our living environment. Therefore, marine clean-up campaigns will continue being promoted with Youth Union and young people as a main force. The activities need joint effort of local authorities, all organizations and individuals to keep the sea trash-free and beautiful,” affirms Nguyen Van Nhuan, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Youth Union.
