IVRD is in charge of conducting scientific research serving for epidemic disease prevention in livestock and aquatic species in central and highland provinces of Vietnam; studying and applying biotechnology in veterinary, animal husbandry, aquaculture and environmental treatment; transferring advanced techniques and technologies; providing veterinary and animal husbandry services; participating in training human resources in the field of veterinary medicine, etc.

IVRD is well-equipped with modern equipment for researchers, specialization divisions and an animal disease diagnosis ward, an ISO:17025 lab meeting the 2nd-level biological safety recognition by the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development as a lab for agriculture & rural development. In 2016, IVRD put a modern vaccine production establishment, 2,100m2, into use, the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP-WHO).

IVRD initially had 6 cadres, 2 research groups, 3 professional groups and 1 subsidiary. Up till now, IVRD has founded 14 units, including 4 functional divisions, 4 research groups and 4 professional divisions, 1 subsidiary and 1 production workshop with 105 staff. Many staff have been sent to attend short-term professional development courses at home and abroad through research programs and cooperation programs in order to improve professional knowledge and skills, meeting the requirement in the integration period.

IVRD has fulfilled training tasks for its veterinary staff through workshops and professional development courses, helping to raise professional knowledge and skills of veterinary staff in the central region and the highland. IVRD has been co-operating with several well-known universities such as the Iowa State University, the University of Wyoming (USA), Ghen University (Belgium), University of Toulouse (France); Chung Ang University, Chung Nam University (South Korea), Pingtung University (Taiwan), the Institute of Tropical Veterinary (Belgium), AHLL Institute (Australia), IZSVe Institute (Italy), etc. IVRD products are manufactured based on GMP. Many studies of IVRD have been announced at local and international scientific workshops and published in local and international scientific journals.

Many studies and measures in research and production have been recognized as initiatives at the grassroots level and awarded many honorable prizes at provincial and national competitions. 12 vaccine products have been awarded with Golden Cups of Vietnam Agriculture. Vaccines for pigs, namely CSF vaccine administered with dual vaccine, Divalent vaccine against pasteurellosis and salmonellosis, Pasteurellosis vaccines for poultry, etc won the award top 100 most trusted Vietnamese products in 2014; 2 products, namely Divalent vaccine against pasteurellosis and Erysipelas suis and Divalent vaccine against pasteurellosis and salmonellosis won the Golden Rice Award by the Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development, etc.

IVRD has developed its network throughout Vietnam in the northern, central, southern regions and the highland and its products have won customers’ trust. The business and production of Institute have increased by 10-12% in revenue on average every year. At present, the Party Committee of IVRD contains 3 subsidiary Party cells, fulfilling the assigned tasks in politics as well as production and business. Besides, IVRD has organized many social activities to visit beneficiaries of social welfare, ethnic minority families and support flood victims. Especially, in recent years, IVRD has contributed to developing farming and keeping green environment on many islands in Truong Sa District. Specially, IVRD has provided guidance on livestock epidemic disease prevention and treatment; and offered many varieties of plants and flowers suitable to the climate on the island, etc. Since 2011, IVRD has donated more than VND750 million to social activities.

Over 40 years of construction and growth, IVRD has been honorably awarded with the 1st, 2nd and 3rd-class Labor Medals; 3rd-class Independence Order; emulation flags and certificates of merit by the Prime Minister, Ministry of Agriculture & Rural Development and Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, etc. In 2017, IVRD is among 15 enterprises receiving Vietnam National Quality Award.
