Many modern solid irrigation systems are under construction, expecting to end flooding and inundation in areas surrounding urban project sites in western Le Hong Phong Street in rainy seasons.

The urban project constructions have included the increase in road bed height, hindering the natural water flow into Quan Truong River, causing flooding and inundation in areas surrounding project sites. To deal with the situations, Nha Trang City People’s Committee has invested in an emergency irrigation system to collect water in low areas and lanes in Dong Muoi 2. The irrigation system is 1,400m in length at a total cost of nearly VND8 billion. Le Khong Hoang Khue, a staff of Construction Investment Group, Nha Trang City Urban Management Bureau  says, “The construction will surely stop the incurrence of flooding and  inundation in Dong Muoi area.”

The construction has been implemented for more than 1 month and is scheduled to finish in 2 months. The irrigation system, 60cm and 80cm wide and 20cm thick, includes 2 main branches and 6 branches in a fishbone shape. The execution team is making effort to finish the work before the rainy season, according to Ho Xuan Quy, Head of the execution team of Dung Loi Construction Company.

Quarter 6 and lanes 120, 138, Phuoc Hai Ward have also suffered from inundation under the influence of VCN urban project. VCN investor has built a Sewer irrigation system, rebuilt an irrigation canal systems in Quarter 6 and Lane 120  (50% of the total work are finished). Apart from investment in an irrigation system in Phuoc Hai Ward, VCN has voluntarily constructed an irrigation canal system in Dong Muoi 2 and the construction has finished 50% of the total work, according to Dinh Khac Lam, Vice-Director VCN Company.

Ngo Khac Thinh, Deputy Chief of Nha Trang City Urban Management Office says VND20 billion is required to invest in the entire irrigation system in Dong Muoi 2. Due to insufficient funding of the city, local residents have agreed with the plan to prioritize flooding and inundation control in low areas. On a long term, the city plans to build irrigation systems in remaining areas. The new irrigation system is expected to end the flooding and inundation in areas adjacent to urban project sites.
