Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in association with Khanh Hoa People’s Committee celebrated the 70th anniversary of the War Invalids and Martyrs' Day (July 27th) and inaugurate the Monument for Johnson South Reef soldiers in Northern Cam Ranh Peninsula Resort, Cam Lam District on July 15.

Present at the event were Bui van Cuong, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, Central Party Committee Member; Le Thanh Quang, Central Party Committee Member, Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee Secretary; Nguyen Tan Tuan, Permanent Deputy Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People’s Council; and representatives of Khanh Hoa Permanent People’s Council, People’s Committee and relatives of 64 martyrs’ families and veterans.


All the delegates attended a thurification ceremony in commemoration of martyrs and a ribbon-cutting ceremony to inaugurate the Monument for Johnson South Reef soldiers; planted commemorative trees and did sightseeing at the monument.

On this occasion, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor received many martyrs’ objects from their relatives; VND20 billion donated by Trade Unions of provinces, cities and enterprises nationwide to build the 2nd phase of the monument and Paracel martyrs’ statues on Ly Son Island, Quang Ngai Province. In addition, Vietnam General Confederation of Labor offered 11 gifts worth VND30 million each to martyrs’ relatives.


The 1st phase of the monument includes a square, statues, an underground museum, wind tombs, etc on an area of 2.5ha. The construction is funded by the contribution of Trade Union members, laborers, enterprises, local people and overseas Vietnamese.
