Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has just approved in principle the public community participation in investment and operation of parking lots in Nha Trang City.

Lack of parking lots has become a serious problem, especially during holidays when lots of tourists pour to the city center. It is difficult to find parking spaces in central areas. Therefore, many cars can be seen parking illegally in streets. At present, there is no synchronous planning of stationary traffic in Nha Trang City while means of transport, especially cars have increased significantly, causing pressure on the current traffic infrastructures. There are only 3 temporary parking lots. More parking plots are urgently required to reduce traffic jam, according to Ngo Khac Thinh, Deputy Chief of Nha Trang City Urban Management Office.

There are more than 25,000 motor bikes in Nha Trang City, up by 11-12% on average every year. In the first 6 months of 2017, more than 1,300 new motor bikes have been registered in Khanh Hoa (80% in Nha Trang City). Khanh Hoa Department of Transport has been assigned to cooperate with relevant agencies and communities and make proposals related to planning of parking lots to meet the increasing traffic demand in Nha Trang City.

Accordingly, 8 locations suggested for the construction of parking lots include 4.1ha which is under the planning for mountain trees in the western entrance to the city on Nha Trang - Dien Khanh route (Cao Ba Quat - Cau Lung); 9,600m2 planned for parking space in Vinh Nguyen Ward, Vinh Truong, according to the approved 1/2,000 of Binh Tan Port Ware House; 2.63ha under the 1/500 planning of Khanh Hoa Physical Exercise & Sports Zone; 3ha land not under any projects or detailed planning; 3,000m2 parking lot in front of Vinh Hai Market for the area around Ponagar Temples;  4,0002 land situated between the 19-8 Stadium Stand and Lac Hong Tennis Court which can be temporarily used for parking whenever no sporting events are under way; and 2 locations with an area of over 3ha in Le Hong Phong Street.

Based on suggestions by Khanh Hoa Department of Transport on September 16, 2016, Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has approved a planning of parking lots in Nha Trang City, assigned Khanh Hoa Department of Construction and Department of Natural Recourses & Environment to adjust the construction planning and land use planning.

Nha Trang City People’s Committee has updated the above stationary traffic planning on the traffic organization scheme in Nha Trang City. Khanh Hoa Department of Culture & Sports has been assigned to cooperate with Nha Trang City People’s Committee to discuss use management mechanism of the land around the 19-8 Stadium as a parking lot; ban food service operation at the entrance to the stadium in Phan Chu Trinh Street to facilitate traffic connection. Khanh Hoa Department of Transport continues cooperating with local departments and Nha Trang City People’s Committee to seek for locations for parking lots in northern Nha Trang City. The land in front of Vinh Hai Market is small, so more traffic connection schemes need to be discussed.

Nguyen Cong Dinh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Transport says more parking lots are among many major measures to reduce the traffic congestion and facilitate travel, especially in the city center. However, Khanh Hoa Province has approved public funding participation in investment in parking lots due to limited local budgets. Reportedly, Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has assigned Khanh Hoa Department of Planning & Investment to preside over the cooperation with the Department of Transport and relevant agencies to make a list, call for 2018 investment as defined, make a report and give advice about relevant contents to Khanh Hoa People’s Committee before August 31.
