Red Journey blood donation campaign

More than 2,000 people donated blood in the Red Journey program 2017 held in Nha Trang City...

On July 12, more than 2,000 people donated blood in the Red Journey program 2017 held in Nha Trang City. Early in the morning, Khanh Hoa Conference Center (46 Tran Phu) was crowded with volunteers, including public and private sector staff, soldiers,  local residents, etc waiting for blood donation.

“I was a bit worried when I donated blood for the first time and now I get used to it. I feel happy as I think my blood can help save lives, so I am willing to donate blood whenever I have a chance,” says Tran Ngoc Son, a staff of Khanh Hoa Sacombank.

“The humanitarian event  is for the community’s sake. This is the 2nd time I have donated blood and I hope the movement continues expanding,” says Le Xuan Hai, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Confederation of Labor.

Nguyen Dac Tai, Vice-Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee is also present at the blood donation site early to encourage every blood donor. The program collected 1,620 units of blood, a two-fold increase compared with  the target.

Launched in 2013 and initiated by National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute, the Red Journey has taken place in 37 cities and provinces nationwide and received more than 150,000 units of blood donated for 4 years and helped saving hundred thousands of patients. The 5th Red Journey has received response from 28 cities and provinces nationwide.

Nguyen Anh Tri, Director of National Hematology & Blood Transfusion Institute, Head of the organizing board of Red Journey says, blood for emergency use is in need nationwide. Thanks to  the local authorities’ concern, cities and provinces have mobilized donors and successfully organized the Red Journey, receiving thousands of units of blood, exceeding the target. The Red Journey has expanded and met with a warm response from the community.


At the Red Journey gala held on July 11, Cao Thi Thu Nguyet, whose son is suffering from Thalassemia in Dien An Commune, Dien Khanh District, says, “From birth, my 7-year-old son has depended on blood transfusion every half a month or 20 days. The blood is from blood donors. I’m very grateful and I would like to say thank you to all the blood donors for their kindness and beneficence.”


Dang Ngoc Hiep, Vinh Hoa Ward, Nha Trang City has donated blood  for 65 times within 13 years. “I will continue donating blood as long as I am healthy. I used to be a ward Youth Union Secretary and mobilized more than 1,000 people. Sometimes I come to Ho Chi Minh City to donate blood to patients. Blood donation is a good deed, an act of life-saving benevolence that needs to be promoted,” he says.
