Expectation and satisfaction
Early in the morning, a resident named Do Van Nham, Dinh Hamlet, Hai Trieu, Van Long Commune together with locals was present at Hai Trieu bridge location to attend the ground-breaking ceremony. All of them were excited about the construction of a new concreted bridge to replace the old one.
“I am 70 years old, spending all my life here. This old handmade wooden bridge has remained in the memory of many local generations when traveling from So Hamlet to Cu Chi Hamlet. However, the bridge is often washed away by flood water. We are so happy with the State funding for the construction of a new solid bridge,” said Do Van Nham.
“The bridge, old and dangerously decrepit, under several repairs by the commune government and local residents, is in need of replacement. I’m so delighted about the new bridge as it is our long-time dream,” added another resident named Le Phuong, 77, Dinh Hamlet, Hai Trieu.
According to the leader of Van Long Commune, Hai Tieu Bridge was built by local residents several years ago. The bridge reconstruction is such a good news to local residents. Reportedly, on this occasion, apart from Hai Trieu Bridge, 3 more bridges are expected to be built to replace old ones in Van Ninh District.
20 new bridges to be built
According to Dao Van Binh, Director of the Managing Board of Project 18, the project on local bridge construction and road management project is under the bridge construction project approved by the Prime Minister to assure traffic safety in ethnic minority areas, period 2014-2020. Accordingly, the project includes 2 components of roads and bridges. The bridge component is invested in 50 provinces and cities nationwide, using the WB funding and the national reciprocal capital.
According to the project approval decision, Khanh Hoa receives investment in bridge component with 20 bridges (approximately VND28 billion). 2 component projects approved in Khanh Hoa include 13 bridges and sewerages in Van Ninh (4), Ninh Hoa (6), Khanh Vinh (2) and Cam Ranh (1). The new Hai Trieu Bridge is expected to facilitate travel and assure traffic safety in remote areas, especially in rainy seasons, contributing to developing rural traffic strategy, period by 2020, vision by 2030 and the national target program on new rural construction, to facilitate socio-economic growth, and boost agricultural production and consumption.
Khanh Hoa Rural Traffic Project Management Board plans to cooperate with relevant partners to focus resources, speed up project progress and conduct inspection and supervision to assure quality, labor safety and traffic safety. 13 bridges and sewerages are expected to be constructed and put into use in February 2018, according to Chu Van An, Director of Khanh Hoa Rural Traffic Project Management Board.
